A family vacation to Dollywood
If you enjoy scenic roads, mountains everywhere you look, and amusement park rides, then Dollywood is a vacation the whole family can enjoy together.
The Dollywood theme park, named after famous country music singer, Dolly Parton, is located on 125 acres of land in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Dollywood is one of the most popular family vacation spots.
Dollywood’s amusement park rides include thriller rides and roller coasters, kiddy rides, water rides, and rides for the whole family to enjoy. Besides the rides found at Dollywood you will also find attractions such as the 30,000 square foot aviary which houses the largest population of non releasable bald eagles in the world.
Also among Dollywood’s attractions is the Calico Falls Schoolhouse, which is a one room schoolhouse from the 1890s. Visitors are given a glimpse of what it was like to go to school back then, when chalk and slates were used instead of pencils and paper.
You will also find a two room replica of Dolly Parton’s Locust Ridge childhood home. Dolly Parton grew up in a home with no electricity or running water, but her home was always filled with an abundance of love, and through all her fame and fortune, she has never forgotten where she came from.
The Southern Gospel Museum and Hall of Fame is also located at Dollywood. The roots of Southern gospel music run very deep and the museum and hall of fame offer visitors a chance to learn more about the legends that sing this type of music that got its start in the church.
Dollywood’s live entertainment shows are a must see. Not only do they include live music performances but there is also a special show where Dolly’s relatives share stories with the audience about what it was like growing up with her. This show gives you a closer glimpse into what life for Dolly Parton was like before stardom.
On top of the regular amusement park games and food vendors, you will also find a variety of heritage and crafts such as blacksmith and foundry, custom glassworks, handmade wagons, woodcarving, sweet shop treats, and old flame candle making demonstrations.
Dollywood truly is a wonderful vacation for the entire family to enjoy, filled with fun, laughter, and educational opportunities. Visiting Dollywood with your family will create memories that will last a lifetime. Go and enjoy!
